What an incredible song. Sort of life altering for me. I can still remember having heard Jeff sing at at Slim’s all those years ago, I’d heard it before…Think I initially, when having heard it earlier, had heard that phrase “father’s sweet embrace, always kept mother in line….” But I’m remembering that at Slim’s I pretty much gasped when I heard that lulling, lullaby like “at home…at home…at home….at home….. then changing into the profound energy of anger…. and all the other underlying emotion of pain…..
Have to say that there is nothing quite like hearing a song sung by the writer himself or herself. I understand though that songwriters eventually don’t feel or want to focus on the energy that initially went into the writing of a song.
Thank you so much Jeff for having written and performed such profoundly meaningful, moving and musically interesting and varied songs.
